Can I receive calls or SMS’s when I am on MXit?
If you have a 3G phone, then YES! Phones that don’t support 3G might unfortunately disconnect you from your MXit session.
Can MXit only exchange text messages?
MXit actually supports a lot more than just text messages. You’re able to exchange sound, music and image files, but keep in mind that there is a 150kb limit to file exchanges. These files and clips can be saved to your Gallery – for future reference.
How can I retrieve my MXit pin?
South African users
Send an SMS with the word PIN from the phone number with which you registered your MXit profile to 34006. This SMS will cost you R2.00.
International users

How do I add contacts?
Once all of your friends have MXit, it’s simple.
Go to MENU > select contacts > click on add contacts > select MXit > Fill in relevant details > Select the group you want to place that specific contact in and > Select ACCEPT.
How do I chat?
Once your friend has downloaded MXit and registered, then add them as a contact. If they invite you as a contact, all you do is accept their invite and you’re connected. You will see their name displayed on your menu, and if they’re online a green icon will appear next to their name. Click on your friend’s name, then select ‘write’ on your menu bar, and start typing. You can send a message of up to 1000 characters, for a fraction of the cost of an SMS… so message away.
How do I get GPRS settings for my network?
To get GPRS settings for your mobile, contact your service provider’s Customer Call Centre. It would be advisable to have your mobile manufacturer’s make and model handy
How do I know when I have a message?
A new message is indicated by a closed envelope next to the contact name of the person who sent you the message. Just in case you miss the yellow envelope, your phone will vibrate and play alerts when the new message reaches you. To jump straight to unread messages, press ‘7’ on your mobile’s keypad
How do I log onto MXit?
To join the evolution, open your web-browser and type in www.mxit.com/wap then follow the prompts to download MXit. Once downloaded, access your ‘Games’ or “Installations’ file and open MXit to register – simply follow the prompts. But if you need help, see the question below.
How do you pronounce MXit?
It stands for “Message Xchange it”, and its pronounced “mix it”.
How secure are my messages?
Your MXit messages always remain yours and are safe from prying eyes. But if you want extra security you could always encrypt your messages!

What is MXit?
It’s an instant messaging application which runs on your mobile and costs a fraction of the price of an SMS. It’s not just a message, it’s a conversation. It allows for receiving and sending of text messages, images and sound clips through mobile and PC via your internet connection. It also allows you to connect to your contacts on Yahoo, Windows Live Messenger (MSN), Google Talk, AIM and ICQ.
What is the “Info” contact for?
It is the first place to seek technical support. “Info” will also send you messages periodically to inform you of any MXit developments, as well as downtime, technical issues, upgrades and tips of the day.
